Ahead of half term next week, DFL and their advisors have put together an A-Z list of London boroughs offering free schools meals.

See below borough by borough list of councils and places offering free meals this half term.


1.       Barking and Dagenham

Food clubs run by the LBBD council:

  • There is a food club at William Bellamy Children’s Centre in Frizlands Lane, Dagenham, open every Monday from 11am to 4pm. Telephone 020 8724 1983.
  • There is a second at Marks Gate Community Hub in Rose Lane open Wednesdays from 11am and 1pm. Email
  • A third is at the Sue Bramley Children’s Centre in Bastable Avenue, Barking, which runs between 12pm and 2pm on Fridays. Call 020 8724 1983.
  • There is a fourth club at Barking Learning Centre in Town Square which is open on Tuesdays from 12pm to 4pm. Telephone 020 8724 8725.

2.      Barnet

Parents of children who receive free school meals will be offered £15 food vouchers through their schools to cover for the half term break.


  • Chipping Barnet foodbank:

if you or anyone you know will struggle with food during half term this week, we want to help. On Tuesday during our normal session (12pm and 2pm), we will also be offering food parcels to families to help provide lunches during half term. You will not need a voucher for this, please just private message us on Facebook or send us an email at: and we will provide you with more information on how and when to pick up your food.

Theo's Cafe and Grill strongly believe that no child should ever go hungry, so we are supporting #endchildfoodpoverty campaign. This half-term, we are offering free school meals for any child who needs it. Simply pop in between 2-4 pm from Monday 26th October to Friday 30th October.

4.      Brent

Parents of children eligible for Free School Meals will be able to collect a £15 food voucher from Brent Council to help children get a meal every day next week.

If families are suffering food hardship on Monday or Tuesday, Brent Council can assist with a Food Bank referral. Parents can contact Brent council on 0208 937 1234 for a temporary urgent food bank referral.

Places providing free meals for kids in half term  

  • Granville Community Kitchen will be open every Wednesday for food aid packages and cooked food for families only. The Granville, 140 Carlton Vale, NW6 5HE

If you would like a free hot meal you can collect, it from 2pm every Wednesday. Deliveries are also available. Food aid is also available on Fridays from 6pm.

5.       Bromley

Bromley council rule out Free school meals for the half Terms, except for those children who are already on Free school Meals. 


6.      Camden

Camden Council: issuing vouchers directly to the Family; 

  •   A family with one child is £15 vouchers 
  •   A family of two or 3 children £35. 
  •   A family of 4+ children £50. 

7.       Croydon   

Croydon Council is only providing for those children who are already on the free school meals, and those that struggling to contact the office through the education enquires. 

If your family receives free school meals and are struggling during half term, contact the school’s team to apply for supermarket vouchers.

For a safe and social distanced pick up, Bombaylicious advises you to place your orders for pick up between 4- 6pm, Tuesday to Friday throughout this half term. 

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Broadmead Primary School, part of The Pioneer Academy, has teamed up with Nourish Catering to provide the free of charge lunches for families of students from Monday to Wednesday of the half term break.

The initiative is aimed at providing the meal for students and their parents to take the weight off families, after some parents asked the school for referrals to food banks.

8.      Ealing

Ealing Council donated to the food bank and asking the businesses and some organisations to also help by donating to the food banks. 

9.      Enfield

A statement regarding Enfield Council’s policy can be found on the council website: 

‘Enfield Council is working with schools in the borough to ensure no child goes hungry over the October half term. 

The parents of children who receive free school meals will be offered food vouchers through their schools to ensure their children do not go hungry during the half term break.’

A statement regarding Greenwich Council’s policy can be found on the council website: 

The council said: "Royal Greenwich is ensuring that regular meals are provided for children and young people within the borough during the school holidays, through funding the Holiday Meals mobile kitchen.” 

"Meals are served at multiple locations across the borough, meaning that nutritious meals are readily available and families continue to receive support outside of school term time."

  • The Pembury Tavern 

Teaming up with ACE Pizza to offer free meals for kids between 4pm-6pm Mon-Fri. In addition, £1 from every pizza sold during the week will be donated to Hackney Food Bank. 

Hackney residents can collect a free kids lunches from the Yellow Warbler Coffee from 12pm-2pm, Monday to Friday during half term. If you would prefer to get in touch privately, email 

The in-house restaurant @StudioKitchenN1 will be providing free meals for Hackney children during half term. They will be ready and waiting for collection from 11am-12pm, Monday to Friday. 

Free packed lunches are available from 26-30 October, Monday to Friday, for collection 12pm-1pm. No questions asked. Each packed lunch will consist of a ham or cheese roll, piece of fruit, box of raisins, yoghurt, crisps and fruit juice.

12.   Hammersmith and Fulham

Places providing free meals for kids in half term 

Free kids meals for locals to the Hammersmith and Tavistock Square branches from 12pm-5pm, 26 Oct-1 Nov. Each outlet will be offering 25 free meals a day with four chicken wings, fries and a soda. Just walk in and say you would like a free kids meal 

Giving out 1,000 free, healthy lunches to children over half-term from their pubs in Hammersmith, Surbiton and Kingston. Email to let them know how many meals you need. 

Kids eat free this half term (26-30 Oct) with a full paying adult between 12pm-6pm. Available for children aged 12 and under. Pre-booking is not essential but is advised.

‘Growing up in South Africa our school didn't offer lunch, but my Mom made us lunch every day and if she didn't we had lunch money. It is unfathomable to think that kids will go hungry during half term. If you rely on free school meals and are in need this week please get in touch. FREE DINNERS FOR FAMILIES THIS HALF TERM. The school holidays are an especially hard time for those in our communities facing poverty. This is not a new problem, @surplus.tosupper have been distributing food to those families for over 4 years. I have teamed up with this incredible charity to provide wholesome meals from quality surplus food they collect daily from local supermarkets.

I think we need to remember that its not just the children that are going hungry its the whole family, so I will be making savoury and sweet tray bakes for families of up to 6 people (if you have a larger family I can also accommodate).

18.   Islington

One hundred free lunches for children in need available every weekday during half term from 12pm-2pm.

Free packed lunches for kids who need it from Monday to Sunday during half term. Just swing by and pick up a bag, no questions asked.

Finks, IslingtonFinks is giving away as many free school meals as they can from Thursday during half term. Each meal will contain a veggie main (tomato and roast veg pasta or homemade wholemeal veggie pizza), with hummus and veg sticks, a piece of fruit, a slice of banana bread cake and a drink.

  • Friends of Ours

Any child who would usually get free school meals can DM Friends of Ours to request a free lunch box during half term.

  • Holborn Studios

The in-house restaurant dioKitchenN1@Stuwill be providing free meals for Hackney children during half term. They will be ready and waiting for collection from 11am-12pm, Monday to Friday.

12:51 will be giving out 300 free lunch boxes to the kids of our local primary school St Mary’s COfE that have had their free meal vouchers denied by our government.

  • Trullo

Trullo, Padella Borough Market and Padella Shoreditch will be giving out free “pasta kits” for school children aged between 4 and 16 in our neighbourhoods this week, from tomorrow at midday - Friday, collection only.

We will be offering Pappardelle with Beef Shin Ragu or Tagliarini with Tomato Sauce. Instructions will be provided and all you need is a couple of saucepans and you’ll be grand.

Inspired by @MarcusRashford and a load of other food businesses we’re giving out free burritos this half term week to any under 16s that need one.

We’re providing free meals to local school children at our London office Monday to Thursday.

Please email with your name, number of meals, and preferred day/time between 12-2pm and we'll email you to confirm!

  • The Sauce

We would like to extend our help to those children, and will provide a healthy freshly made re-heatable meal pack for those in need this half term. We also intend to do so throughout the Christmas period, if we find ourselves in the same position. It’s nothing political, but a human right which should not be denied to anyone, no matter the circumstance. Our children are our future and its only right to give them the support they need! We stand with @marcusrashford and applaud all that he has done!

19.   Kensington and Chelsea

We have been cooking with and feeding children every holiday, saturday and after school since we set up to support our community post Grenfell. Thank you for highlighting the need. we still do it with smaller numbers in a covid safe way. We're offering a free packed lunch for children this half term as part of Marcus Rashford's Free School's Meal Programme.

Children aged up to 15 can claim a free pizza from 2pm-4pm during half term 

Pho is giving out 6,000 free children’s meals to vulnerable children from 26-30 October. Starting at midday each day they will give out 50 meals a day (egg fried rice and a piece of fruit) from each of their restaurants. Branches in Islington, Spitalfields, Chiswick, Ealing, Battersea, Balham, Stratford, Wimbledon and Kingston. 

From Tuesday to Friday during half term, Prezzo will be giving out free Pasta Boxes. Available for collection 11.30am-12pm. Just ask for the Prezzo Pasta Box for their child.

This family run vegan burger restaurant in the heart of Brick Lane, will be giving free food to kids during half-term. Husband and wife owners, John and Nelly, came from families that depended on free school meals growing up and they know first-hand how much some kids really need them. After hearing the government announce they will not be providing free meals to children who need them most this half-term, they felt compelled to help families who are especially struggling due COVID-19. The kids eat free scheme at Mooshies will be running from next Tuesday 27th – Sunday 1st, 12pm – 4pm each day. Children up to the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult but adults do not have to order food to receive food for their children.

Rinkoff Bakery, a Jewish family run bakery who have been feeding the East End for over 100 years is offering to help feed children during the holidays who are eligible for free school meals. They will offer a kid’s lunch selection of sandwiches, fruit juice and brownies and cookies. You’ll need to get in touch , via DM on social media @rinkoffbakery or 02077914909 to register. 

  • Mae and Harvey - 414 — 416 Roman Road, E3 5LU 

The wonderful people at Mae and Harvey on Roman Rd have said they would like to help too. Natasha who runs the café felt motivated to help when she found out how many children local to her café rely on school meals. Feeling fortunate to never have experienced going hungry as a child and knowing that she could do something, made her want to try. Mae and Harvey will be making up lunches for kids who usually have free school meals, but no proof of eligibility will be required. Children will receive a bag with a roll, fruit, snacks and a drink. Families can pick up between 12-12:30 Monday-Friday next week but please contact them 07725 757713 in advance to let them know you need one in order to ensure they have made enough for everyone. 

  • The Bow Bells - 116 Bow Road, E3 3AA 

A great collaborative community effort. Working with partners Tower Green Hamlets and Mojo Kitchen, The Bow Bells pub will be distributing food for children in need this half term. Starting on Monday from of 12pm to 4pm. Families are invited to just pop in and pick up a pack lunch including a sandwich, fruit, snack and a bottle of water. 

  • St Paul Old Ford - St. Pauls Church, St. Stephens Rd, E3 5JL 

Throughout half term children and young people will be able to get a free warm meal from St Paul Old Ford’s Cafe, no questions asked. The cafe will be open Monday to Friday between 10am – 3pm. Many families who may suddenly find themselves in a precarious situation or who have no recourse to public funds due to their immigration status will appreciate this. 

  • Tale of India - 53 West India Dock Road, E14 8HN 

The Tale of India will be offering children who are in receipt of free school meals a chicken or vegetable biriyani meal any day this half term between 6pm -9pm. You can call 02075372546 to book your child’s meal. Another lovely human who believes that no child should ever go hungry and that as a community we should do all we can to help.

The Albert will be making packed lunches for children that can be picked up or dropped off to you from Monday 27th October to Sunday 1st November.  They promise to keep all information confidential and ask nothing in return.
